Philip E. Taylor, 75, of Sara Road, St. Marys, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Penn Highlands DuBois, with his loving wife by his side following a brief illness.
He was born on July 31, 1949, a son of the late Howard and Betty June Kohlepp Taylor.
He was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, class of 1967. He was a member of Queen of the World Church.
He married Barbara DeGroat on August 11, 1973, at St. Leo's Church in Ridgway, who survives. They were blessed with over 51 years of marriage.
Phil worked at Motion Control for 26 years and then became a truck driver working for various companies and retired from Noco in 2012.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his three beloved grandchildren, whom he adored more than anything. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports like football, soccer, track, baseball, swimming, Olympic weightlifting and softball. He was always on the sidelines rooting them on. He especially loved going camping, boating, hunting, and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Pheasants Forever and helped with youth pheasant hunts with his bird dogs, Candy and Molly. He was well known for his amazing gardening skills. He loved to grow lettuce, zucchini, cucumbers, and most of all, his tomato plants, which he was very proud of. He grew many tomatoes, and they were some of the largest tomatoes around. Phil always found time to work in his garden with his daughter Becky, where they would tend to and cultivate their many plants.
One of his favorite vacations with his family was their trip to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons. It was one of his most memorable vacations he went on. He greatly enjoyed watching the birds at the bird feeder every day, especially the cardinals.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters; Becky Taylor and Jackie (Rick Pane) Taylor-Whitaker, both of St. Marys, and by his three grandchildren, Anthony (Breanna Marconi) Whitaker, Gianna Whitaker and Brina Taylor-Groll.
