John Van Street, 95, Tucson


John Van Street, 95, of Tucson, Arizona, entered his Heavenly home on Friday, September 13, 2024 in Tucson, AZ following an illness of the past few months.



He was born September 9, 1929, in Bethlehem, PA, a son of the late Anton and Florence (Moyer) Van Street.


In January of 1954, John married the late Pearl Van Street, who preceded him in death on December 11, 2021. Together they shared nearly 68 years of love, laughter, and marriage.


John joined the Army where he got his GED and completed a year of college. During his time in the Army, he held many positions, starting in Germany where he was a guard at the prison for the Nuremburg trials. He was then a postal clerk in Japan and later in NJ. John went on to travel on Navy ships back and forth to Hawaii where he serviced the soft drink machines for the Army travelers. His final position before retiring in NJ after 23 years of service was in satellite communication. After John’s Military career he worked as a mail carrier, an accountant for a boat sales company, and a manager at a steel plant. He served in churches in various capacities as SS director, financial secretary, Sunday school teacher, and children’s church leader.


John was an avid Pinochle player. In his later years, he enjoyed bingo and watching Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud and Jeopardy. John was a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan. He loved the shore, picnics, grilling out, dogs, and McDonald’s breakfasts. John will be remembered for his smile, his cunning card playing, his sense of humor, and the love he showed.


John is survived by a son; John Weichmann of Cheektowaga, NY, a daughter; Karen (Barry) Moyer of Tucson, AZ, two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and by several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and by a daughter; Susan Van Street Farabaugh.



A Celebration of John's is being scheduled in St. Marys and will be announced.


Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
