Americans place a lot of importance on friendship. In fact, 61 percent
say having close friends is extremely or very important for people to live a fulfilling life. Having friends is seen as more of a priority
than being married, having children, or having a lot of money. Most adults say they have between one and four close friends, while about 38 percent say they have five or more. A sad eight percent of those polled say they have no close friends.
