Major changes could be coming to Pennsylvania’s elk license application system if the Game Commission finalizes measures that received preliminary approval from the Board of Commissioners.
The updates, aimed at streamlining the process and addressing public concerns, will be decided in April.
Among the proposed changes, hunters would be required to purchase a general hunting license before applying for an elk tag, replacing the current system that only requires a license if an applicant is drawn. This adjustment also eliminates the need to provide Social Security numbers or hunter IDs during the application process.
The Game Commission is also revising how the elk license drawing process is described, modernizing language to reflect the electronic system now used, instead of the outdated manual process.
