"March Madness", Thank Musberger

When did the NCAA Men’s Division 1 basketball tournament start being

called “March Madness”? The name was traced back to Illinois high

school official Henry V. Porter who used the phrase in 1939. But the name didn’t become popular until broadcaster Brent Musburger used March Madness during coverage of the 1982 tournament.
